Outbound Exchange Program

51³Ô¹ÏÍø prides itself on preparing our students with every opportunity to reach their potential. We are proud to provide our students with opportunities to participate in international programs with our partnership schools. These programs help to strengthen the language acquisition of our students and provide authentic cultural experiences and personal growth.

Our students have the opportunity to participate in international student trips to

  • Japan: cultural trip and global forums
  • Réunion Island: reciprocal exchange investigating the UN Sustainable Development Goals
  • Europe: Germany and neighbouring countries for partnership exchange and cultural immersion

There are additional opportunities to develop leadership through programs such as World Challenge.

Japan Trip

The Japan Trip runs in alternate years during the Term 3 holidays and allows any student in Years 10-12 with a keen interest in Japanese language and culture to experience the very best of Japan. Students will visit major cities including Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima visiting famous temples and shrines and also have one day in Disneyland. Following this, students participate in a 5-7 day Study Tour at Ushiku High School, experiencing a range of cultural classes and clubs and stay with a Japanese family.

Reunion Island

The Reunion Island program offers students in Years 9 and 10 the opportunity to immerse themselves in French language and culture by hosting a French student and travelling to Reunion Island, a French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean. Students from Reunion take part in a 2-week Study Tour to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø during March, homestaying and attending school with their exchange partner. In late Term 3, the group from Reynella East travels to Reunion Island to homestay with their exchange partner, attend Lycée Antoine de Saint-Éxupery, and participate in excursions which include snorkelling, hiking through rainforest, visiting an active volcano and exploring lava tunnels.

Mishima Scholarship

The Mishima scholarship is awarded to a Year 9 student who shows an aptitude and deep interest in Japanese language and culture and who has demonstrated ongoing support of the College’s international student program. The recipient is awarded a 2-week trip to Japan in the Term 1 school holidays along with students from each school in the Southern International Education Network. The trip involves homestay with a Japanese family, attending Nihon University Mishima Senior High School, cultural excursions and immersion in Japanese language and culture.
